The best Money transfer to Nigeria

So i’m starting with MoneyGram, being one of the best and oldest means of money transfer.

1. MoneyGram

Moneygram money-transfer

How To Send Money Using MoneyGram

You can send money from Nigeria to abroad through MoneyGram, but please note that not all banks are partnering with them. The the likes oof access bank, Union bank, Eco bank, UBA and First bank allows one to send money from Nigerian to abroad.

Requirements Needed

  • User I.D
  • Recipient full name matching their I.D and location
  • The amount you wish to send, and the transfer fee

You can send money directly from the website or app(Online) or by going to the bank or any moneygram centers.

Sending Money Through Online

  •  First you will have to create an account with them.
  • Go to their website through this url
  • Select account deposit option and you will indicate whom you want to send the money to, and how much you want to send.
  • Next is you have to select a payment method. You can use your credit card, debit card,  or directly fromm your bank account.
  • Next is to verify your identity and this is where the iD is needed, if the ID didn’t match with your account information including your credit or debit card, your bank account, they will cancel it immediately.
  • If it goes accordingly, you can finalise the process by clicking on submit button.

Sending Money Through Offline(directly to bank account)

  • Look for a moneygram centre around you
  • You are required to bring your iD, recipient full name matching their ID, bank name and account number. The recipient location(address) and the amount you wish to send.
  • You’ll be given a form to fill, in the form is; senderss first and last name, a valid means of identification, sender’s home address, amount to be sent, receivers address, source of funds, purpose of transfer, receivers name as it appears on the ID.
  • Next is to save the receipt number and also give the recipient the 8 digit reference number.

How To Receive Money Through MoneyGram

There are two ways or methods that one can receive money through moneygram, and they are;

  • Through bank account
  • In Person

To receive funds or money through your bank account is mostly common in Nigeria.

This only requires you as a recipient to send your bank account details which also includes your credit or debit card to the sender. And you will receive the money on the stipulated time.

When the sender wants to send the money, he/she will indicate on how the recipient will receive the cash, if it is bank deposit then the money will be deposited right into your account and without you going to the bank or center for cash pick up.

To receive money in person,  you will have to look for a moneygram center, complete a simple receive form by entering the reference number given to you by the sender. This is compulsory as the is what you will use to claim the money.

You will also need to go with your ID for identification, the reference number will be keyed in a security pin pad. The receivers first and last name will be asked, plus the expected amount.

They will also ask of sender’s address, first and last name and the last which is purpose of the transaction.

Finally you will receive your money by handing the completed form and photo ID to the moneygram agent.

But you can save the recipient the stress with an instant deposit. Yes this is possible as i’ve recieved cash straight into my zenith account through moneygram without going to their center to collect the money. But the instant cash deposit isn’t supported by all banks, i’m only sure of zenith and first bank

MoneyGram have a good customer service which is always available to help in terms of any issues or inquiry. You can contact the on the following ways;

  • Call: 1-800-955-7777

Having used moneygram to receive money from abroad(US and Canada) i will say that their services is good. The only issue that got me pisssed off is that i received the directly into my Naira savings account, and their exchange rate is way too poor even compared to the bank rate.

MoneyGram Rate

US $1 = N320

CAD $1 =N263

Official Bank Rate

US $1 = 360

CAD $1 = 278

If you want to enjoy the best money transfer to Nigeria, create a savings domiciliary account, have the money transferred to it, collect you foreign currency and head to aboki to change it.

Do i recommend moneygram to people?

2. Western Union Transfer

Western union money transfer

Very reliable & trusted  | Faster money transfer | Good customer service | 200+ Countries | Cheap transfer fee | Fair exchange rate | Bank deposit

Western union is the most popular and common means that Nigerians receive money from UK, USA, Canada, Australia etc to their bank account.  If you’re looking for the best money transfer to Nigeria, western union should be on the top list.

How Send Money Through Western Union

Like it’s counterparts moneygram, there are two ways which one can perform money transfer in Nigeria, and they are as follows;

Through Western Union Online Transfer:

This method makes it convenient for people to send money to their loved ones, family, friends or business associates. You can send money right from your house or office to someone in the UK or US.

24/7 available makes it the option for money transfer in 2019. To send money through this method;

  • First you need to register and login to your account.
  • Click on the send money option, select the country of the recipient, the amount you want to send, and the delivery method.
  • Choose how you like to make payment, you can select credit or debit card, or bank account or cash at their agents centers.
  • Next is to enter the recipient location and address. Note that the address and name must match with the information on the recipient ID.
  • Then you will have to make payment. Since it is online, pay with your credit or debit card.
  • After the payment, you will get a reference or tracking number(MTCN). Send that number to the recipient also cause is what the recipient will use in claiming the cash transferred to him or her.

Through Western Union Offline Money Transfer

Another best money transfer to Nigeria in 2019 is the offline western union fund transfer.

This only requires you to walk into any western union center or partners, it can be a bank or a non bank institution. But i recommend going to the bank.

  • When you walk into the bank,  speak with the customer service representative and request that you want to send money using western union.
  • You will be issued a form to fill and the form is about your personal details, and also the recipient personal details. Please you’ve to be very careful when filling the form, let all details be correct.
  • Next is to select the way to receive the money, it can be cash pick up, money in minutes or bank account.
  • Make payment with the form submitted to the bank or an agent.
  • After successful payment, you will receive the MTCN number.
  • Save the number and also send it to the recipient for cash collection and tracking.

Receiving Money To Nigeria Through Western Union

This is an easy process, all you as a recipient have to do is to give the sender your details like it is on your ID. The sender will notify you of the payment, and will give you the MTCN number.

With the number, walk into any bank that supports or acts as a center or an agent to western union,  collect the form for it, fill the form with the correct details.

You will also be issued with an anti money laundering form as well. Complete the two forms and don’t forget to type in the MTCN number in the required field.

The last step is to key in the last four digits of the MTCN number on a device given to you by the bank. After everything is successful, you will receive the payment into your account or get the cash handed over to you.

Western union exchange rate is no different with the moneygram rate, though slightly better. That’s why it is advisable to open a domiciliary account.

Their customer service is a top notch, they reply to your queries within 2-5 minutes by email address.

  • Phone Number – 1-800-325-6000
  • Email Address WesternUnion@emails.westernunion.com

Western union is one of the trusted, reliable and best money transfer to Nigeria, and i always recommend it to people as i haven’t fault them since four years i’ve been using it.

How to recieve money in Nigeria using Xoom

The likes of First Bank, Ecobank, Skye Bank, accepts instant cash pickup. The recipient will needs a valid ID and the Xoom transaction number sent to you.

This is why the details you gave should be the same with the details on the recipient ID

But you can save the recipient that stress with instant bank deposit.

Not all banks accepts this but i’m sure of Zenith bank, Gtbank and First bank accepts the instant bank deposit.

For cash pick up and bank deposit, Xoom transfer fee is from $0 – $4.99 but this depend on the currency and amount that you are sending. This is quite cheap as moneygram charges as high as $11 though that worth every penny.

6. Transferwise Money Transfer

Transferwise money-transfer

Good exchange rate | Fast transfer | Online transfer | Cheap transfer fee | Direct bank deposit | Good customer service

New on the list of best money transfer to Nigeria in 2019 is the transferwise. Many may seemed not to know about them, but i have once received money from them to my local account.

Their services is top notch and this includes their customer service representative who is always ready to help.

Transferwise is an online platform which people can send money to their love ones, family, friends or business associates directly to their bank account. As it is an online money transfer channel, before you can use their platform to transfer money, you will first create and confirm your account.

How to transfer money using Transferwise

To transfer money using transferwise is as easy as ABC, and you will also save the recipient the stress of going to the bank or any center for cash pick up.

  • Create an account and login
  • Select how much you want to transfer
  • You will see the exchange rate per Naira
  • Select the currency based on the currency you want to transfer
  • You will indicate who you are sending the money to and will also give details about yourself too
  • Next is to type in the recipient details and bank account details
  • And finally make payment using your credit or debit card. Bank transfer is also acceptable in Transferwise
  • The recipient will get the money to the specified bank account.

Transferwise doesn’t take long in transferring the money to the recipient bank, a duration of 2-3 it usually take.

One good feat i like about them is the good exchange rate and customer service. If the recipient don’t have a domiciliary account, then the person can receive the money directly to it’s savings account. The exchange rate is almost equal to what bank gives and also the black market rate.

Official Exchange Rate

$1 Per N359 – N362

£1 Per N450 – N455

Transferwise Rate

$1 Per N355

£1 Per N446

When you look at the two exchange rates, you will see that there isn’t that much difference especially in 2019 that all banks in Nigeria increased their exchange rate.

Transferwise charges as low as £5.77 when you transfer from your bank account, £8.70 when you send money through your credit or debit card, and this option can send money under 15-30 minutes.  Then £5.70 if you are living outside the UK.

But generally, their transfer fee fluctuates and it takes 1hr – 4hrs for the the recipient to receive the money to his/her account. This is undoubtedly the fastest money transfer i’ve seen, it bettered the likes of western union, moneygram, worldwremit.
